Challenger Sports British Soccer Camps are the most popular soccer camps in the country. Each year over a thousand Challenger coaches help the company develop one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer across the US. Their experienced staff studies the game at all levels. They have identified the key techniques and skills that young players need to work on and master to reach their true potential. We were offered a week of camp for Chase to try out in exchange for our honest review from US Family Guide. Chase does sports camps each summer but we had never heard about British Soccer Camps. I was really curious to find out more, and Chase was excited to participate in something new. He really loves soccer and is playing for our local club here in Lake Oswego this fall. I looked on the website and found a nearby camp at Touchstone School in Mountain Park. The enrollment process on the British Soccer Camps website was easy and we received a confirmation of our signup within minutes. About a week before camp started, I received an email confirming the dates and location, along with local contact information if we had any questions. The class size was smaller than most with 6 students to one coach, perfect for more one on one attention. Chase's coach was Coach Joe. He is wonderful and has the most friendly, warm personality! We could tell he really loves his job and working with the kids. Chase and I both felt comfortable with him right away.
Coach Joe with Chase. Chase said Joe was his favorite coach ever![/caption] At Touchstone, they have an astroturf field that serves as the pitch so Chase didn't need his outdoor soccer cleats, just his running shoes or "trainers" as Coach Joe calls them :) Each day of the weeklong half day camp includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and even a World Cup tournament. The campers learned better dribbling, passing/receiving, shooting, heading, and tackling/defending skills. Chase's favorite part of camp was playing skill building games like "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?" and "Sleeping lions". Chase came home happy, tired and sweaty each day after camp - a true sign of success for an active 8 year old. There was even a cute ceremony on the last day for parents to cheer on their kids as they received their certificate of completion for the camp. The kids were all so happy, you could tell they really enjoyed the week. One of the parents told me she had enrolled her daughter for the next week of camp with Coach Joe as well. British Soccer Camp offered a great learning experience for Chase as well providing excellent coaching and mentoring. We would happily sign Chase up again for another Challenger camp! - Denise
